Pontefracts Mark "Nitro" Lawrence is guaranteed to finish top of the 2017 Streamline Taxis York Open Darts Championships Order of Merit after defeating Andy Walshaw 5-1 in the final of Ranking Event 11 held at Huntington WMC on Saturday 17th June 2017.
Lawrence won his second ranking event of the 2017 campaign going out in legs of 19-20-14-19 and 15 against Walshaw's solitary 19 dart leg.
Lawrence (20-16-18 and 18) defeated Mike Atkinson (18 and 17) 4-2 in the semi-finals where Atkinson added 2 x 180's. Walshaw (14) also hit a deuce of 180's in his 4-2 win over Jim Gordon.
In the 1/4 Finals Lawrence (16) had a 3-2 win over York's John Holden which was the same result Gordon (19-20) had over Stephen Silver (18-20). Atkinson beat Lee Budgeon 3-1 whilst Walshaw (21) whitewashed Joe Usher.
Gill Vine won the prize for the Furthest Lady reaching her board final losing out 3-1 to Joe Usher whilst Adam Pearce and Ryan Lea, who lost in the last 32, shared the Furthest Youth (under 18) Prize going out to David Copley 3-0 and Gill Vine 3-1 in their respective games.
A total seventy legs of 21 darts of less were achieved and fifteen 180's were recorded on the day with Walshaw, Atkinson and Gordon notching up two a piece with single 180's from Tom Dawson, Lance Milburn, David Copley, Trevor Holtby, Lee Budgeon, Steve Vine, Neil Ward, Richard Yates and Stephen Silver.
Eight players achieved three figure finishes with Cam Edkins leading the way with a 148 out shot. Mark Lawrence closed a 140 with Mike Atkinson (136), Jim Gordon (135), Stephen Silver (124), Steve Mann (110), John Holden (105) and Richard Yates (100) completing the line up.
Winners of the Blind Pairs event were Phil Hoggarth and Mark Lawrence defeating Neil Hart and Richard Yates in the final. losing Semi-Finalists were Joe Usher/Trevor Day and Bill Pearson/Gary Hobson.
The last Ranking Event for the 2017 Streamline Taxis York Open Darts Championship takes place on Saturday 1st July 2017 at Huntington WMC. Doors open at 10.30am, bar 11am and registration closes at 12.30pm for a 1pm start.
Please Note: this is also the start date for entries for the 2017 Huckleberry's YDP Darts Masters which takes place on Saturday 28th October 2017 at the same venue. Entries are limited to 128 players and strictly based on first 128 to pay are in the event.
