"Rock Solid Performance From Edwards"

February 5, 2017

A total of 82 entrants put their names forward for the 7th Streamline Taxis York Open Darts Championship Ranking Event 3 and there was to be a new winner as Guisborough's Allan Edwards came face to face with Howden's Mike Atkinson in the final. Both players scored maximum's in what proved to be a top drawer final as Edwards, known as "The Rock", with legs of 15-14-13-15 and 15 against Atkinson's 14-15 and 19 came out a 5-3 winner.

Yesterdays was Edwards sixth competition win since Christmas 2016 and he has played 111 consecutive county games for Cleveland. His biggest win so far was the 2016 Gold Cup pairs when partnering Glen Durrant.

Edwards (17-14-20-15) added another maximum in his 4-1 Semi-final win over York's Mark Hartley (19 plus 180 score) whilst Atkinson (20-18) defeated Scarborough's Jim Gordon(13-15) 4-2 with Gorden including 2 x 180's.
In the quarter-finals Hartley (19-13) defeated Mark Mcloughlin (114 out shot) 3-2 and Justin Hobson (13) lost by the same margin to Gordon (18). Edwards (16) whitewashed Shaun Matthews and the same fate fell to Simon Cass as Atkinson closed his three legs in 18-17 and 18.
David Copley collect the highest checkout prize sponsored by Hart of York Executive and Luxury Travel with a 125 finish with Bill Hague (120) Mark Mcloughlin (114) Trevor Day (113) and Lance Milburn (106) other players closing with a ton plus finish.
The Furthest Lady Prize went to Toni J D Smallwood and for the third event running Tom Dawson collected the Furthest Youth (under 18) prize.
It was another day of quality darts as 116 legs of 21 darts or less were recorded with Richard Rowdy Yates and Steve Cupitt both recording the fastest legs of the day with 11 darts and there were 24 scores of 180 recorded with Edwards leading the way on four.

The Winners of the Blind Pairs event were Jim Gordon and Neil Hart who beat Dean Smallwood and Luke Quantock in the final.

Ranking Event 4 takes place on Saturday 18th February 2017 at Huntington WMC in York. Registration closes at 12.30pm for a 1pm start. Entry fee's taken on the day.
